Ghanaian
Afro Pop musician Rex Omar has cautioned that Ghana’s music industry may lose
their claim to Highlife music to Nigerians, if efforts are not made to preserve
the music genre.
He however
said Ghana has every opportunity to own back the music which originated in
Ghana at the turn of the 20th century by giving it priority over others.
Facts:
He noted that musicians are shifting towards other music
genres because the Ghanaians are now interested in those forms of music, citing
the increasing growth of dancehall music as an example.
He Highlife must be redefined and encouraged, promoted by
not just the artistes, media and general public to avoid Nigerians claim it as
their own.
Rex Omar, born Rex Owusu Marfo, is set to release his 17th studio
album this year titled Restoration which expected to
be blend of Highlife, Afro Pop, Hip Hop, Jazz, and other genres.
